Obama gathered 75,000 in Oregon rally in May | Senator Barack Obama will give his Democratic presidential nomination's speech at a sports stadium like former President John F. Kennedy.
The decision to move Obama's speech on the final night of the Aug. 24-28 gathering to Invesco Field at Mile High was a natural extension of his efforts to open up the political process, party officials said Monday.
"Sometimes our conventions don't feel like they are open to everybody," the Democratic nominee-to-be said in St. Louis.
"For us to be able to do it in Invesco Field is an opportunity for 80,000 people who might otherwise not have been able to participate to get involved," the Illinois senator said.
Also, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean praised Obama's decision and said he was 'delighted' about the change in venue.
For the first time in a similar plan, former President John F. Kennedy accepted his presidential nomination before tens of thousands at the Los Angeles Coliseum on July 15, 1960.
