Republican candidate Senator John McCain | Republican nominee-in-waiting John McCain says given his advanced age choosing a competent vice presidential running mate is vital.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, the 71-year-old McCain said he is already 'getting together a list of names' to choose a vice presidential running mate from.
"I'd like to get it done as early as possible. I'm aware of enhanced importance of this issue given my age," the Arizona senator continued.
McCain, who wrapped up the Grand Old Party's presidential nomination a month ago, said he plans to announce his running mate before the Republican convention in September.
Although the Arizona senator refused to give details of his search for a running mate, he said that anyone is 'imaginable' in the list of 20 his campaign is drawing up.
Pundits believe due to McCain's age issue, the prospect of his presidency truly lies within who his chosen running mate will be.
